Nazareth Adds Two Part-Time Police Officers

Nazareth Mayor Carl Strye Jr. swore in two part-time police officers on Monday.

The ranks of the Nazareth Police Department are starting to swell.

Police Chief Thomas Trachta said Wednesday that his department has added two part-time police officers.

Mayor Carl Strye Jr. swore in the two officers on Monday, Trachta said.

"I'm sending them to the range today," the chief said. "They are in the process of qualifying and should be on the streets in September, in about two weeks."

The chief said he could not release the names of the officers at this time.

"We are moving forward with the process," said Trachta, who recently had his contract extended by Borough Council through the end of the year.

The police department, which will remain after a deal with Colonial Regional to oversee police coverage fell through, now has the chief, two full-time officers and nine part-timers, including the new hires.

Nazareth is in the process of advertising to hire full-time police officers.
