Field of Dreams Takes Shape in Lehigh Valley

Miracle League of Northampton County prepares for Sept. 9 opening day of new ball field

On a recent Friday morning, the activity at a Palmer Township site was hectic. Workers build a dugout and lay a rubber coating on the ground as Palmer Township Supervisor Bob Lammi oversees the operation. Meanwhile, a short distance away, Supervisors Chairman Dave Colver is helping to put a beam in place. All of this work is leading up to the shout of "Play Ball" as the Miracle League of Northampton County prepares for Opening Day Sept. 9 at its brand-new field. Colver's company, David E. Colver Inc., is serving as project manager and since April 30, his crew has been working non-stop to turn this patch of land in the back left corner of the Charles Chrin Community Center into a Field of Dreams. Miracle Baseball Field Breaks Ground Dec. 12

The Miracle League will build a baseball field at the Chrin Community Center for disabled children and adults.

After more than a year of planning, The Miracle League of Northampton County will break ground at the Chrin Community Center Dec. 12 to build a baseball field for disabled children and adults. “It’s a realistic goal now to have kids on the field by the summer of 2012,” said Dan McKinney, director of the Chrin Center and a board member for MLNC. But the fundraising continues. Most recently, the Business, Industrial and Professional Association of Palmer Township donated $15,000 to the effort. A capital campaign was launched last year calling for $750,000 to build and operate the field. McKinney says they are still looking for donations to meet that goal. The field will be located next to the Chrin Community Center off Green Pond Road. …

Miracles Happening in Palmer

Puritan Products donates $10,000 for Miracle League field

The miracles keep happening for a Palmer Township project that will provide a baseball facility for children with physical and intellectual disabilities. Puritan Products Inc. of Bethlehem is donating $10,000 to the Miracle League of Northampton County to help construct a baseball field that is custom-designed for the special needs of children with physical and intellectual disabilities. The field, located next to the Charles Chrin Community Center off Green Pond Road, is scheduled to open in spring 2012. A capital campaign was launched last year calling for $750,000 to build and operate the field.
