U.S. Attorney's office says Easton Hospital and St. Luke's overbilled Medicare.
Easton Hospital will pay the U.S. government nearly $455,000 after admitting to wrongfully billing Medicare. That's according to the U.S. Attorney's office, which announced Wednesday that the hospital had agreed to repay the government program $454,866 for wrongful claims submitted between January 2004 and May 2009. Those claims were for evaluation and management services typically not allowed under Medicare. "Medicare does not normally allow additional payments for such services performed by a provider on the same day as a procedure, unless the service is significant, separately identifiable, and above and beyond the usual preoperative and postoperative care associated with the procedure," according to a U.S. Attorney news release. State Rep. Joe Emrick holds his second fair for senior citizens on Friday in Forks Township.
They came for health information, some handouts, freebies, food and free flu shots. And they left with smiles and peace of mind. Hundreds of senior citizens from throughout the Lehigh Valley turned out Friday for state Rep. Joe Emrick's second annual Senior Fair at the Community Center in Forks Township. "it's a great way to provide critical information to seniors and a great outreach," Emrick said. "Seniors really appreciate it." Emrick -- who represents the 137th Legislative District, which includes Forks and Palmer townships and Nazareth -- was thrilled with the turnout, calling it "tremendous." An Easton woman has been missing for a week and police are asking for help to find her. The family of Linda L. Kile, 68, doesn't know where she's been since she was released from Easton Hospital on Aug. 27 after being treated for injuries from a fall in her home, according to police. Kile may be driving a blue, four-door Toyota Prius. She may need medical attention if she hasn't been taking her regular prescriptions. Anyone with information is asked to call Easton Det.
