Veterans Day: What's Open, What's Closed

Read what's open and closed in the Nazareth area on this federal holiday.

In observance of Veterans Day, here is what's open and closed Monday, Nov. 12: Nazareth Borough, Upper Nazareth Township and Lower Nazareth Township municipal offices are open.  Nazareth Area School District and Holy Family School are open. Memorial Library of Nazareth & Vicinity is open. Trash / Recycling: Running on a normal schedule. Retail: Most retail and entertainment establishments are open today. Here's a rundown of Veterans Day 2012 facts from the U.S. Census Bureau: Veterans Day originated as “Armistice Day” on Nov. 11, 1919, the first anniversary of the end of World War I. Thank a veteran! Add your note of thanks in our comments section below. Congress passed a resolution in 1926 for an annual observance, and Nov. 11 became a national holiday beginning in 1938. President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed legislation in 1954 to change the name to Veterans Day as a way to honor those who served in all American wars. Wounded Warrior to Speak at NCC on Nov. 3

Retired Army medic will speak at Northampton Community College.

In anticipation of Veterans Day, Northampton Community College’s Band of Brothers club will host Hugh Conlon, a retired Army medic and member of the Wounded Warrior Project, on Thursday, Nov. 3, at 11 a.m. in the David A. Reed Community Room in College Center on the Main Campus. Conlon, who left service as a Sergeant First Class, served in more than 350 combat missions in Operation Iraqi Freedom, Honduras, Panama and Desert Shield/Desert Storm, and has received awards including the Combat Medical Badge and Bronze Star. He will share his story and talk about the Wounded Warrior Project. Band of Brothers will accept donations for the Wounded Warrior Project during the event.
