A Nazareth school board member says he complained two years ago about a former teacher now charged with sexually assaulting a student.
Former Nazareth Middle School drama teacher Shawn Salevsky is in jail, accused of sexually assaulting a boy in school, and a school board member says he wishes he had done more to try to oust Salevsky two years ago. School director Chris M. Miller told the Morning Call that he complained about Salevsky when the teacher had students perform songs that contained sexual innuendos. Miller said he wanted the teacher fired and is now disgusted by the case. At a school board meeting in November 2011, Miller criticized Salevsky for exposing students to inappropriate content, according to a Lehigh Valley Live report. A Monroe County man in prison for the alleged sexual assault of a young girl has been charged with sexually assaulting two 14-year-old girls in Nazareth. Nathan Riley, 20, of Effort, was arraigned Thursday in front of District Judge John Capobianco and returned to Monroe County Prison under $50,000 bail -- $25,000 per case. His bail for the Monroe County case also is $50,000. Riley was charged with one count each of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and indecent assault, and two counts each of aggravated indecent assault, corruption of minors and contact/communication with minor-sexual offenses. A 24-year-old former Muhlenberg College police officer is accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old Nazareth girl inside her home and e-mailing her sexually explicit photos.
Faced with 33 charges for the alleged sexual assault of a girl 11 years his junior, a 24-year-old former Muhlenberg College police officer surrendered to authorities Friday, according to Nazareth Police Chief Thomas Trachta. Nicholas Repko-Moschini, of 1404 N. New St., Bethlehem, was arraigned by on-duty District Judge Todd Strohe of Bangor and sent to Northampton County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail. On June 5, according to a police criminal complaint, the 13-year-old girl told Officer Stephen Schleig that she had been sexually assaulted more than a month earlier by Repko-Moschini at her Nazareth home. A 32-year-old Nazareth man accused of raping a 14-year-old girl and sexually assaulting another 14-year-old girl is in Northampton County Prison tonight after failing to post $165,000 bail. Jason Lippincott of the 200 block of Lackawanna Avenue was arraigned Wednesday in front of District Judge Todd Strohe on charges of rape, criminal attempt, sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault, corruption of minors and related charges. The Crime Victims Council of Lehigh Valley, Inc. is offering three new support groups at no cost. One group will meet in Allentown and two in Easton. One of the groups will be a resiliency forum for women, 18 or older, who have been sexually assaulted or sexually abused. This group will meet the second Tuesday of every month, beginning Jan. 10, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Crime Victims Council's Easton office at 1555 Northampton Street. A second group meeting at the Easton office is for parents or caregivers of children who have been sexually assaulted or abused. Conference at Lehigh University tackles dangers to students
Like death and taxes, binge drinking on college campuses might appear to be inevitable – the product of large swaths of young people free for the first time from parental control. But a group of experts gathered at Lehigh University recently argued that there are ways to reduce its prevalence in addition to preventing crimes such as sexual assault, that often involve alcohol.
