Former Nazareth Pastor Now Heads Bethlehem Central Moravian

Bishop Hopeton Clennon is the new senior pastor of Central Moravian Church.

Central Moravian Church has welcomed the Rt. Rev. C. Hopeton Clennon, formerly chaplain of Moravian College and Moravian Theological Seminary, as the new Senior Pastor effective Jan. 16. Bishop Clennon will be installed in a special service on Sunday, Jan. 20 at 11 a.m. He has been pastor to many Moravian churches in Jamaica and to three churches in the United States: Faith in Washington, D.C., Schoeneck in Upper Nazareth Township, and Downey near Los Angeles. “Many of us know Hopeton and Shelia [his wife] as members of the congregation,” said Mary Catherine Tachovsky, president of the Board of Trustees, and William Sachs, vice president of the Board of Elders, in a joint letter to the congregation. “Others know Hopeton as a friend, as a …

David H. Gower, 84, of Nazareth died Saturday, June 30, 2012.

David H. Gower, 84, of Nazareth, died Saturday, June 30, 2012, at Moravian Hall Square. He was the husband of Jeanne W. (Weiss) Gower. They celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary on June 25, 2012. Born in Nazareth on Sept. 15, 1927, he was the son of the late Harry and Hilda (Beitel) Gower. David was an electrical engineer with the former Fuller Co. (now G.A.T.X.) in Bethlehem for 31 and a half years before retiring in 1987. He then worked part time for Hoffmann-La Roche in New Jersey and I.U. #20 in Nazareth. David was enthusiastic about music, which showed in his participation with the St. John's U.C.C. Church Choir and St. Luke's Singers. He was an active member of his home church, Schoeneck Moravian Church, where he participated in …

Local Blood Center Calls for O Negative Donors

There are eight local blood drives scheduled in March, or you can call (800) 223-6667 to schedule an appointment at the Miller-Keystone Blood Center in Bethlehem.

Miller-Keystone Blood Center has issued a call for blood donors with the O negative blood type. While donations of all types are needed, O negative donations are critical, as individuals with the O negative blood type are referred to as universal blood donors. This means that the red blood cells of an O negative donor can be transfused to anyone, regardless of their blood type. These donations are particularly important in cases of accident and severe trauma, when there may not be time available to confirm the specific blood type of the patient in need of a life-saving transfusion. Community Chorus Announces Rehearsal Schedule

The Nazareth Area Community Chorus will meet every Tuesday between September and June at Schoeneck Moravian Church.

The Nazareth Area Community Chorus will meet at 7:30 p.m. every Tuesday between September and June. The chorus meets at Schoeneck Moravian Church in Upper Nazareth Township -- in the Fellowship Hall. According to a press release, the 60-member chorus is currently preparing for its Oct. 30 "Harvest Harmonies" concert, which will feature an array of music. Interested in joining? No tryouts required! New members from Nazareth and surrounding communities are welcome to join the chorus, which performs at schools, churches, retirement communities and at special events throughout Nazareth -- and the Lehigh Valley.
