Beloved Philanthropist Linny Fowler Dead at 73

Linny Fowler died Monday at the age of 73, according to reports.

Philanthropist Linny Fowler died Monday of natural causes, according to a report in The Morning Call. She was 73. UPS heiress Fowler was known locally for giving generously to the arts and to the poor. Several buildings in the Lehigh Valley are named in her honor, including the Fowler Family South Side Center of Northampton Community College in Bethlehem. She also was a major benefactor of ArtsQuest. NCC spokesman Heidi Butler said, "As the news traveled across campus this afternoon, there was shock and sadness, followed by spontaneous sharing of memories, not only of how generous Linny was, but also of how down-to-earth she was and about the personal interest she took in students and the encouragement she gave them. 45 Nazareth Area Students Become NCC Alumni

More than 900 Northampton Community College students -- including 45 Nazareth area students -- were honored for their hard work and dedication at a commencement ceremony held on Saturday.

Northampton Community College held a commencement ceremony Jan. 26 for more than 900 students who completed associate degrees, specialized diplomas and certificates during the past six months, according to a press release. The graduates majored in close to 100 different fields ranging from fine art to biotechnology. Free Program: Is Your Kid Ready for Kindergarten?

Northampton Community College will hold a free program on kindergarten readiness Tuesday, Jan. 29

Northampton Community College's Reibman Hall and Hannig Family Children's Centers will host "Kindergarten Readiness: Tips to Help Your Child Succeed" on Tuesday, January 29, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. The program will be led by Denise Continenza of the Penn State Cooperative Extension. The program will be held in College Center 117 at NCC's Main Campus in Bethlehem Township, and will be livestreamed to the Monroe Campus in Video Conference Room 141. The interactive workshop will feature a question-and-answer session with a panel of early childhood experts, including an experienced kindergarten parent, a kindergarten teacher, a pediatrician, and a family educator. A Northampton Community College student from York County, Pa., has been charged with selling marijuana out of the Bethlehem Township-based college's residence hall.

A Northampton Community College student from York County, Pa., has been evicted from the college’s residence hall after he admitted to selling marijuana -- for 10 to 15 regular customers -- out of his room. During an early-morning search of 20-year-old Andrew J. Arnold’s dorm room, court records say, Bethlehem Township police found more than 100 grams of suspected marijuana, four marijuana-smoking devices, sandwich baggies used to package marijuana, $176 and a small scale. Arnold, who hails from Felton Borough, was arraigned Wednesday morning before District Judge Joseph Barner of Lower Nazareth Township and charged with one count each of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance, and…

110 Nazareth Students Make NCC's Dean's List

A whopping 110 students from the Nazareth area made the Dean's List at Northampton Community College for the fall 2012 semester.

The fall 2012 semester at Northampton Community College was a successful one for students from the Nazareth area. A whopping 110 students listed under "Nazareth" in a press release from the Bethlehem Township-based college made the Dean's List -- an honor reserved for students who achieved a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale. Lafayette President to be NCC Winter Commencement Speaker

Daniel H. Weiss, president of Lafayette College, will speak at Northampton Community College's winter commencement Jan. 26.

Daniel H. Weiss, president of Lafayette College, will be the speaker at Northampton Community College's winter commencement, to take place on Jan. 26 at the Arthur L. Scott Spartan Center, 3835 Green Pond Road, Bethlehem Township. Weiss earned an M.A. and a Ph.D. in art history at Johns Hopkins University, joining the faculty there in 1993. He also holds an M.B.A. from the Yale School of Management. He has a B.A. from George Washington University, where he graduated with a double major in art history and psychology. From the Johns Hopkins University, where he was the James B. Knapp Dean of the Zanvyl Krieger School of Arts and Sciences, he came to Lafayette College as president in 2005. NCC Offers Ice Fishing Classes for Youth

Children in grades 6 through 10 can learn about and experience ice fishing at classes offered by Northampton Community College at Lake Wallenpaupack.

Children in grades 6 through 10 can learn about and experience ice fishing at classes offered by Northampton Community College (NCC) and taught by professional fisherman and guide Joe Pacholec. The classes will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the following Saturdays: An NCC van will take students from Hartzell Hall, Main Campus, to Lake Wallenpaupack. The instructor will dig the holes and teach safety and tips. Children should bring lunch and a snack. A hot dog and bottled water will be provided. 15 Nazareth Area Students Make Phi Theta Kappa at NCC

Fifteen students from the Nazareth area are inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa international honor society at Northampton Community College.

One hundred and three students at Northampton Community College were inducted into Phi Theta Kappa, an international honor society for students at two-year and junior colleges. To qualify for membership, inductees must have a 3.5 or higher grade point average, be enrolled in an associate degree program, and perform community service work, according to a press release.
