What Time is the Rose Parade on TV New Year's Day?

Dr. Jane Goodall will lead the 2013 Tournament of Roses Parade when it kicks off at 11 a.m. eastern time on New Year's Day

The Tournament of Roses Parade kicks off the new year on Jan. 1, 2013 at 11 a.m. eastern time and will be broadcast on NBC, ABC and the Hallmark Channel. The parade lasts about two hours. The theme of the 2013 parade is "Oh, The Places You'll Go" as inspired by a Dr. Seuss book. This year's grand marshall will be Dr. Jane Goodall. The parade dates back to 1890 when, to celebrate California's mild winter climate, the Tournament's founders and Valley Hunt Club members, Dr. Francis Rowland and Prof. Charles Holder, created a floral festival patterned after the "Battle of the Flowers" in Nice, France. It was initially a modest procession of flower-covered carriages with afternoon "games" including foot races, tug-of-war contests and sack races…

What Football Games Are On New Year's Day 2013?

Football fans have six bowl games to choose from on New Year's Day 2013

Stanford will face Wisconsin in the big Rose Bowl game scheduled for 5 p.m. on New Year's Day 2013 on ESPN. Four other bowl games will be played in the afternoon starting at noon with the Gator Bowl and the Heart of Dallas Bowl. Football fans can find a complete list at ESPN's colllege football bowl page. New Year's Day football will wrap up with North Illinois versus Florida State in the Discover Orange Bowl at 8:30 p.m. on ESPN.

New Year's Day Hikes Offered at Delaware Canal State Park

Take a hike - a free guided hike - on New Year's Day at Delaware Canal State Park

Upper Black Eddy – Delaware Canal State Park will sponsor two free guided hikes on New Year’s Day as part of America’s State Parks First Day Hikes initiative.  Family friendly hikes will take place on the Delaware Canal towpath, beginning at Wy Hit Tuk Park, Rt. 611 south of Easton, Pa and meeting at Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve (lower parking lot) at 1635 River Road (Rt. 32) in New Hope, Pa on Sunday, January 1st, 2013, from 1 to 2 pm. First Day Hikes will take place in state parks all across America, and will offer a great way to get outside, exercise, enjoy nature and welcome the New Year with friends and family.
