You may have noticed something on this website in the past week or so: Mentions about local sports events. When we launched in 2010, our site included a lot more sports coverage. (It helped that we went live in late November on the day before the annual Easton/Phillipsburg football game.) But since we're a small operation, it's impossible to, say, follow a basketball team from game to game for a whole season and still cover other news. That doesn't mean that we don't want to do sports stories. (I write my weekly Philly Sports Chatter column and do a recap of Philadelphia Eagles games during the season.) Nazareth Area High School receives 11 nominations for the Freddy Awards, which will be held on May 23. Bangor Area High School earns four nominations.
And the nominations are in... Nazareth Area High School has scored 11 Freddy Award nominations Thursday for their school plays. Meanwhile, Bangor Area High School received four nominations. Nazareth's nominations included outstanding performances by an actress and actor in a leading role. Meanwhile, Vanessa Ruggiero received three nominations for her work in "Anything Goes." Bangor's "Annie" garned four nominations for best stage crew and orchestra and best performance by a small ensemble and best supporting actor role. The Nazareth Area High School baseball team will celebrate its seniors at its game Thursday afternoon.
The Nazareth Area High School baseball team is honoring its seniors. The team will hold Senior Day before its game with Northampton Thursday afternoon. A presentation will be made to seniors and parents before the varsity game at 3:45 p.m. Thursday. Among the seniors being honored are: Brad Frace, Anthony Gaetaniello, Ryan Hercik, Daniel Horvath, Nick Novak, Tyler Pastor and Tyler Snyder.

Nazareth High School varsity baseball team will tip hat to staff member at game Tuesday afternoon.
It's time to tip the caps. Before the Nazareth High School varsity baseball team plays Tuesday, a pre-game ceremony will take place in which seniors will honor a staff member who influenced their career. The players will be "tipping their hats off" to the faculty members to thank them for helping them become who they are today. Nazareth varsity faces Whitehall at 4 p.m. Tuesday with pre-game ceremonies starting at 3:35 p.m. It's Community Day Game, which is sponsored by the Nazareth Baseball Homerun Club. And also Nazareth Eagle Bobble Head Day. (One bobble head will be given away to fans 18 or younger.) Here are other game events:

The Nazareth Area High School Art Show takes place May 8-10.
The Nazareth Area School District will be showcasing its artists next week. Nazareth Area High School will hold its art show Wednesday through Friday. The show will open for school hours and also from 6-9 p.m. Work in various mediums from two-dimensional pastels and photographs to three-dimensional clay pieces, from beginning to advanced students, will be displayed in the Raymond J. Nunamaker Gymnasium. The work will be judged by professional artists and the top students in art, photo and crafts will receive cash awards from the Nazareth Area Kiwanis Club. For its 20th anniversary, the Eagle Nest Gallery, also located in Nazareth Area High School, will exhibit the Third Alumni Art Show with an opening reception from 6-9 p.m. May 10. Work …

DA Morganelli to lead social media safety seminar Monday night at Nazareth High.
"Do you know where your children are?" And do you know what they're doing? With teenagers these days, chances are they are on the Internet, a computer or an iPad. But do they know how to be safe on those social media tools? Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli will lead a seminar on "social media safety" at Nazareth High School Monday night. And an appearance could include state Attorney General Kathleen Kane as well. The event takes place at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of Nazareth Area High School. It will feature school officials along with law enforcement from the Nazareth and Upper Nazareth Police Departments and other areas.

Mikaela Esposito and Emma Parrish will represent Nazareth Area High School in the 2013 Pennsylvania Music Educators Association All-State Chorus.
Three Nazareth Area High School students participated in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association Region V Chorus festival this past weekend at Hamburg High School. As part of the choir, McKenzie Doyle, Mikaela Esposito and Emma Parrish performed selections from Carmina Burana and other challenging pieces. Dr. William Cutter, the director of choral programs at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, was the guest conductor. In addition to participating at Regions, the students auditioned for the All-State Choir, which will feature the top six singers in each voice part. The Eagle Nest Gallery is hosting the annual Student Invitational Art Exhibit—a showcase of creative expression by Nazareth Area High School students—from March 7 to 26.
The Eagle Nest Gallery is currently hosting the annual Student Invitational Art Exhibit, which runs March 7 to 26. The exhibit showcases the creative expression of students enrolled in Nazareth Area High School's art department. Student work was selected from courses in art, crafts and photography. A reception is scheduled for Thursday, March 21 from 6 to 9 p.m. The public is invited to attend. There will be light refreshments and live music. Eagle Nest Gallery -- located inside Nazareth Area High School -- is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. It is also open during cultural events. Gabrielle Creazzo, a senior at Nazareth Area High School, was named an honorable mention winner in C-SPAN’s national 2013 StudentCam competition.
A Nazareth Area High School senior has been named an honorable mention winner in C-SPAN’s national 2013 StudentCam competition. Gabrielle Creazzo will receive $250 for her documentary, “The FDA.” The national competition, now in its ninth year, invites middle and high school students to produce a five- to- eight-minute documentary on a national policy issue. This year, students were asked to answer the question, “What’s the most important issue the president should consider in 2013?” C-SPAN received 1,893 video submissions from more than 3,500 students in 44 states and Washington, D.C.
