PHOTOS: Moravian Hall Square Residents Look Chic at Fashion Show

Friends of Hall Square celebrated the fall season Saturday by holding a luncheon and fashion show, which featured Dunkelberger's Sports Outfitter and several Moravian Hall Square residents.

Several Moravian Hall Square residents -- dressed to the nines in fashions from Dunkelberger's Sports Outfitter of Stroudsburg -- strutted down a makeshift runway Saturday during their community's annual fall fashion show and luncheon. Friends of Hall Square, a volunteer organization of Moravian Hall Square, organized the event. The organization consists of individuals who support the ministry of caring for older adults, and was organized to provide resources and financial support through special fundraising events, according to www.moravian.com. In addition to sending its clothes down the runway, Dunkelberger's Sports Outfitter had a variety of accessories and clothing, described as classic, casual and sporty, available for sale. Proceeds…

Robert H. Keck, 89, of Nazareth, died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012, at Moravian Hall Square.

Robert H. Keck, 89, of Nazareth, died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012, at Moravian Hall Square. For 66 years he was married to Anita M. (Knecht) Keck who died on Dec. 20, 2011. Born in Lower Nazareth Township, Robert was the son of the late Harrison and Hester (Fogel) Keck. He was a sales manager for the Keystone Cement Co. in Bath for over 20 years before retiring in January of 1991. In conjunction with his work, he was a member and former officer of the Ready Mix Concrete Association and the Pennsylvania Aggregate Concrete Association (PACA). In his community, Robert was a Deacon, Elder and member of the men's choir at St. John's United Church of Christ, Nazareth. He was director and trustee of the Nazareth YMCA for 25 years, and also a charter…

David H. Gower, 84, of Nazareth died Saturday, June 30, 2012.

David H. Gower, 84, of Nazareth, died Saturday, June 30, 2012, at Moravian Hall Square. He was the husband of Jeanne W. (Weiss) Gower. They celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary on June 25, 2012. Born in Nazareth on Sept. 15, 1927, he was the son of the late Harry and Hilda (Beitel) Gower. David was an electrical engineer with the former Fuller Co. (now G.A.T.X.) in Bethlehem for 31 and a half years before retiring in 1987. He then worked part time for Hoffmann-La Roche in New Jersey and I.U. #20 in Nazareth. David was enthusiastic about music, which showed in his participation with the St. John's U.C.C. Church Choir and St. Luke's Singers. He was an active member of his home church, Schoeneck Moravian Church, where he participated in …

Supervisors Approve Controversial Heritage Village

Despite pressure from the planners to reject the land development plan for the proposed Heritage Village independent living community, the Upper Nazareth Board of Supervisors approve the plan, 4-1.

After three hours of presentations, discussion, debate and comments, the Upper Nazareth Board of Supervisors approved the land development plan for Morningstar Senior Living Inc.'s proposed independent living community, Heritage Village. Morningstar Senior Living Inc. also owns Moravian Hall Square. Scott Sylvainus, vice chairman of the board and a member of the township Planning Commission, was the lone dissenting vote. The community for seniors would lie near the township's border with Nazareth Borough. The Planning Commission voted 5-0 to recommend supervisors reject the plans, saying they don't comply with zoning, density and open space requirements, according to a report in The Express-Times. A vote on Moravian Hall Square's proposed independent living community has been postponed until April 18.

The Upper Nazareth Board of Supervisors postponed a vote on Moravian Hall Square's proposed independent living community, Heritage Village. "They wanted to come before a full board, and since [Willard] Mohn is ill, they decided to grant [the township] an extension," said Gary Asteak, the township's solicitor. The community for seniors would lie near the township's border with Nazareth Borough. The Upper Nazareth Planning Commission voted 5-0 to recommend supervisors reject the plans, saying they don't comply with zoning, density and open space requirements, according to a report in The Express-Times.
