In response to a number of inquiries concerning the status of various projects, state Rep. Nazareth Area Middle School, well-known for its use of solar energy, has a message for Kermit the Frog: Don’t fret, it’s EASY being green. The proof: Gov. Tom Corbett announced Monday that the middle school is one of four schools in Pennsylvania—and among 78 schools and districts nationwide—selected by the U.S. Department of Education for the national 2013 Green Ribbon Schools award. Also selected for the award was Broughal Middle School in Bethlehem. State Rep. Joe Emrick beats former Bangor Mayor Joe Capozzolo to retain his seat in the 137th legislative district.
Republican incumbent Joe Emrick will keep his 137th district state House seat after defeating Democratic challenger Joe Capozzolo Tuesday, according to unofficial results. With 85 percent of the precincts reporting, Emrick received 16,327 votes compared to 9,473 for Capozzolo, the former Bangor mayor and first-time candidate. All vote tallies are unofficial until certified by county election officials. "I feel great," Emrick said late Tuesday. "I'm deeply honored to serve the residents of the district for another term. I appreciate the opportunity to go back to Harrisburg and represent them for the next two years." State Rep. Joe Emrick holds his second fair for senior citizens on Friday in Forks Township.
They came for health information, some handouts, freebies, food and free flu shots. And they left with smiles and peace of mind. Hundreds of senior citizens from throughout the Lehigh Valley turned out Friday for state Rep. Joe Emrick's second annual Senior Fair at the Community Center in Forks Township. "it's a great way to provide critical information to seniors and a great outreach," Emrick said. "Seniors really appreciate it." State Rep. Joe Emrick, R-137th, will hold a Senior Fair tomorrow (Friday, Sept. 21) at the Forks Township Community Center, 500 Zucksville Road. The event, which will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., is open to all senior citizens, their families and caregivers. Admission is free. Also free? Flu shots! They will be provided by Lehigh Valley Health Network. Attendees can also take part in health screenings and enjoy light refreshments. The mobile Vet Center will also be on hand, compliments of The United States Department of Veterans Affairs.

The Pennsylvania Department of Education grant can be applied to pay up to 50 percent of the costs related to construction and rehabilitation of a library facility.
An old oil furnace will be replaced at The Memorial Library of Nazareth and Vicinity thanks to a $10,000 grant through the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund. Nazareth Borough applied for the grant, according to State Rep.
