Martin Guitar has been named the Green Building Award winner by the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce.
Martin Guitar's distribution center in Forks Township is the recipient of the Green Building Award from the Greater Lehigh Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber and The Frederick Group will present the award at The Lehigh Valley Commercial Real Estate Outlook and Awards Luncheon on April 18. Martin Guitar opened its distribution center—located in the former Famous Smoke Shop building on Conroy Place—in March 2012. A focus of the newly renovated building was energy conservation. The facility boasts lighting controlled by motion detectors, increased insulation, bicycle racks in its parking area and a walking path—all of which allowed Martin Guitar to apply for Bronze Level LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental) Certification. William Mills resigned from Forks Police Department two days before a termination hearing in late September. Now he's suing the township.
A former Forks Township police officer who resigned two days before he was scheduled to attend a termination hearing has sued the township. William Mills of Upper Nazareth Township filed suit against Forks Township Friday in U.S. District Court in Allentown, according to the Allentown Morning Call. Mills states in his suit that township officials -- he cites Police Chief Greg Dorney and Township Manager John Cornell -- publicized allegations that he was allegedly sleeping on the job and had a terminal illness, the story states. Forks Township was expected to hold a termination hearing on Mills to address the allegations. The Forks Township Board of Supervisors recently approved a $600 donation -- from the township's general fund -- to the Bushkill Stream Conservancy. The township has, in the past, made a similar donation. Supervisor Robert Egolf is vice president of the organization. Supervisor John O'Neil wondered, "Can we afford $600?" Forks Township farm features five reindeer as a holiday tourist attraction.
You know Donner and Blitzen... Well how about Ginger, Clarise and Gus? They may not be in Santa's sled, but on a farm in Forks Township, five reindeer have become one of the Christmas holiday's hottest attractions. At the Z Arch Barn Farm, an upstart Christmas tree farm, the reindeer are just as popular as the pre-cut Fraiser and Douglas fir Christmas trees that owner Vince Zarate has on display on Klein Road. He built a barn over the past year and turned it into a place to sell Christmas trees in late November, opening for business on Black Friday. But the reindeer are the stars of this show. Eric L. Share of Forks Township admitted to stealing a blank prescription form from an area doctor in an effort to obtain 180 tablets of the painkiller Oxycodone.
A Forks Township man who has been cleaning the office of an area urologist admitted to police he stole a blank prescription and forged the doctor’s signature in an effort to obtain 180 tablets of the painkiller Oxycodone, court records say. The suspect, Eric L. Share, 25, of the 1000 block of Greenleaf St., took the forged prescription form to the Walgreens at 1955 Sullivan Trail in Forks on Nov. 1, the records say. The urologist is Dr. Franklin Margolis, who is listed in a computer search as having offices in Phillipsburg and Lower Nazareth Township. The man police say robbed a Forks Township convenience store carried a sawed-off shotgun, swiped packs of Black & Mild cigars and fled on a bicycle
Police used surveillance video, bicycle tire tracks and a person’s preference for Black & Mild cigars to track down the armed man they say robbed Chubby’s convenience store in Forks Township around 4:30 a.m. Thursday. A criminal complaint about the incident and the alleged robber, Tariq Jahad Yusuf Jackson, 22, also of Forks, reveals the following: --Jackson wore a black-knit ski mask and yellow gloves, and brandished a sawed-off shotgun. State Rep. Joe Emrick holds his second fair for senior citizens on Friday in Forks Township.
They came for health information, some handouts, freebies, food and free flu shots. And they left with smiles and peace of mind. Hundreds of senior citizens from throughout the Lehigh Valley turned out Friday for state Rep. Joe Emrick's second annual Senior Fair at the Community Center in Forks Township. "it's a great way to provide critical information to seniors and a great outreach," Emrick said. "Seniors really appreciate it." Emrick -- who represents the 137th Legislative District, which includes Forks and Palmer townships and Nazareth -- was thrilled with the turnout, calling it "tremendous." State Rep. Joe Emrick, R-137th, will hold a Senior Fair tomorrow (Friday, Sept. 21) at the Forks Township Community Center, 500 Zucksville Road. The event, which will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., is open to all senior citizens, their families and caregivers. Admission is free. Also free? Flu shots! They will be provided by Lehigh Valley Health Network. Attendees can also take part in health screenings and enjoy light refreshments. The mobile Vet Center will also be on hand, compliments of The United States Department of Veterans Affairs.

A police officer from the Lehigh Valley has been invited to sing at the Sept. 11 Phillies game
On the wall in the office of Forks Township, police officer Brooks Kranich hangs a cherished piece of memorabilia. It's his ticket stub and a rally towel from Game 3 of the 2008 World Series he attended at Citizens Bank Park watching his beloved Philadelphia Phillies. On Sept. 11, though, the 38-year-old Kranich might be able to top that Phillies memory. The team has invited Kranich to sing a patriotic song at the Phillies Sept. 11 game against the Miami Marlins -- the 11th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks against America. Forks/Palmer/Easton program provides homes to 32 students from Europe who spend month learning about United States.
Lori Boucher spent a year as a host mother. But then she had enough. That's when the Lower Mount Bethel Township woman decided to jump right in and serve as coordinator of a program that brings international students to the Lehigh Valley for one summer month to learn about this side of the pond. "My husband is from France," said Boucher, who has served as coordinator for 14 years. "So we wanted to keep his culture alive." On Wednesday morning, the group of 32 international students -- high schoolers between ages 15 and 18 -- for the Forks/Palmer/Easton chapter had gathered for class in the Cornerstone Church on College Hill. This place is beautiful! It will definitely be a new family tradition to visit each year. We went on a weekend when Santa was there, they were selling trees, hot dogs-cocoa-cupcakes. Santa had a looooong conversation with high fives with my kids. I loved every minute.
