For his role in a double-fatal accident in Lower Nazareth, Lester Smith, 51, of Bath will pay $124 in fines and costs and will receive three points on his license, according to published reports.
The lone survivor in a September double-fatal crash in Lower Nazareth Township pleaded guilty to two summary driving offenses, according to court records. Lester Smith, 51, of Bath was charged Nov. 9 in the head-on collision on Hanoverville Road that killed Gertrude Babin, 88, and her son, Clifford Babin Jr., 67. Both were from Bethlehem. Colonial Regional Police Chief Roy Seiple said a dog traveling with Smith also died. The summary charges, filed by Sgt. John Harmon with Colonial Regional Police, included careless driving and disregarding a traffic lane, court records say. HARRISBURG -- Thirteen people were killed in crashes investigated by state troopers during the five-day Thanksgiving holiday driving period, State Police Commissioner Frank Noonan announced this week. In addition to the 13 fatalities, 349 people were injured in 1,124 crashes troopers responded to during the official holiday driving period, Wednesday, Nov. 21, through Sunday, Nov. 25. The Lehigh County coroner identified Gertrude M. Babin, 88, of Bethlehem as one of the two people killed in a two-car accident on Hanoverville Road in Lower Nazareth Township.
The Lehigh County Coroner's officer has identified one of the victims in Wednesday morning's two-car crash in Lower Nazareth Township. Gertrude M. Babin, 88, of Bethlehem was pronounced dead at 10:16 a.m. at St. Luke's University Hospital in Fountain Hill. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday, according to a press release. A second person traveling in a station wagon with Babin was also killed, according to a report in The Express-Times, but has not been identified. At least one person is dead in a crash on the 3000 block of Newburg Road in Upper Nazareth Township.
A mini-van and the cab of a tractor trailer crashed on the 3000 block of Newburg Road in Upper Nazareth Township early Wednesday evening, leaving at least one person dead. The Northampton County coroner was on the scene as of 5:30 p.m., but officials have not yet said how many people were involved in the accident. Newburg Road is closed at Gun Club Road. Power was knocked out to the immediate area but Med-Ed crews are on the scene. This is the second fatal crash in 15 months on this stretch of Newburg Road. On May 31, 2011, a Walnutport woman driving a First Student, Inc. van crossed the center line -- for unknown reasons -- and collided with a recreational vehicle. The driver of the student van, Kelly Quier, 42, was killed.

The Upper Nazareth man who authorities said caused an accident that killed a Russian friend and co-worker pleaded guilty to homicide by vehicle and drunken driving in Northampton County Court Monday, the Morning Call has reported. In court, Thomas J. Frezza, 21, reportedly admitted to leaving a July 2011 Bethlehem party at which he drank heavily, although he said he can't remember leaving or driving up an exit ramp to Route 412 in order to enter I-78. Minutes after entering the highway, Frezza's vehicle collided with a tractor trailer in Lower Saucon Township, killing his passenger, Evgeny Vinogradov, 21. Michael Powers, 19, a graduate of Nazareth Area High School, was killed when his vehicle hit a building in Forks Township early Friday morning.
Michael Powers, 19, of Shelley Street in Tatamy, was killed in a one-vehicle accident when his car plowed into a commercial building near the intersection of Bushkill Drive and Mitman Road in Forks Township early Friday morning, officials have confirmed. Powers was a 2010 graduate of Nazareth Area High School. Emergency crews were called to the scene shortly after 7 a.m. and the roof of the car reportedly needed to be removed to free the driver, who was apparently already dead when they arrived, according to scanner reports. Northampton County Coroner Zachary Lysek said that Powers died of multiple blunt force trauma at the scene. A Nazareth woman was killed in a one-vehicle accident Sunday on Route 33 in Plainfield Township, according to state police at Belfast. According to witnesses, Shawnalai Werkheiser, 22, of Wood Street was traveling at a high rate of speed and weaving between lanes before the crash, police said. The accident occurred around noon. Two people -- one of them a nurse -- pulled Werkheiser from her 2000 Honda Civic, according to police and attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Werkheiser was pronounced dead at the scene by Northampton County Coroner Zachary Lysek. In addition to Plainfield Township fire and EMS, Suburban EMS assisted.

Two Nazareth men are in critical condition after an early-morning -- and fatal -- accident on Route 94 in Warren County, N.J., according to a report in The Morning Call. Colton Schadler and Darin Stout, both 22, were flown by helicopter to Morristown Medical Center after the car they were riding in struck a tree around 4:30 a.m. Monday. According to the report, the driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. He was identified as Justin Jaquillard, 22, of Bath. Michael Keller, 23, of Wind Gap, was also critically injured. According to state police, no one in the 2002 Chevy Trailblazer was wearing a seat belt. A Bethlehem Township woman was killed Sunday morning in a two-vehicle crash on Route 33 in Plainfield Township, according to State Police in Belfast. According to police, Melissa Garrigan, 41, of the 3900 block of Bruce Lane was driving her 2009 Subaru Forester in the left southbound lane -- between the Belfast and Stockertown exits -- around 8am. Garrigan attempted to pass a 2000 Sterling AT9500 series, heavy duty truck driven by Leroy Altemose, 54, of Saylorsburg. In a statement to Patch, First Student Inc. confirmed that a company van was involved in a fatal accident in Upper Nazareth Township Tuesday that killed driver Kelly Quier, 42, of Walnutport, and injured two others. “Sadly, our driver has passed away and our hearts go out to the driver’s family and friends at this difficult time,” said Timothy Stokes, a spokesman for First Student.
