The Forks Township Board of Supervisors recently approved a $600 donation to the Bushkill Stream Conservancy.
The Forks Township Board of Supervisors recently approved a $600 donation -- from the township's general fund -- to the Bushkill Stream Conservancy. The township has, in the past, made a similar donation. Supervisor Robert Egolf is vice president of the organization. Supervisor John O'Neil wondered, "Can we afford $600?" "Yes," according to Finance Director Jim Farley. According to www.bushkill.org, the Bushkill Stream Conservancy "is a public-private partnership advancing the conservation and enhancement of the Bushkill Creek watershed. The Conservancy sponsors programs of education, public outreach, recreation, environmental research, streamside restoration, and historical documentation." A wary Tatamy Borough Council heard Monday night that demolition work -- originally slated to begin in June -- on the closed Main Street Bridge could possibly begin in December. Officials from Bi-State Construction in Easton said in May that it wanted to begin construction on the new bridge in June, but due to state Department of Environmental Protection clearances, a UGI gas line that is attached to the bridge, and a property easement issue, the construction timeline continues to be bumped back. At Tuesday night's council meeting, Moren said Tatamy will seek federal assistance. As of Wednesday morning, the creek merely teased the idea of overflowing once again, but the rain isn't finished. The Nazareth area is expected to receive between one-half and three-quarters-of-an-inch …
