Target opened its doors at 9 p.m. on Thanksgiving, and the shoppers came. By mid-morning Friday, shopping seemed to have slowed in some spots.

Updated 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23: Shopper traffic at the Palmer Park Mall and Northampton Crossings appeared to slow late Friday morning, with the usual amount of shoppers for a weekend. Patch reported no long checkout lines. Kohl's at Northampton Crossings and Target were still busy. The Morning Call reported that Colonial Regional police broke up a small demonstration outside the Walmart in Lower Nazareth, by those protesting wages. A small group of demonstrators were also outside the Walmart in Lower Macungie, according to a report on lehighvalleylive.com. Tell us about your shopping experiences in the comments below. Huge crowds plus waking up before dawn plus a couple of little people could be a formula for disaster.

This week’s Moms Talk relates to Black Friday shopping. True confession time: I have NEVER been Black Friday shopping. I have read about it. I have seen stories about it on T.V. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas… er... starting next Friday.
It’s a tradition: in exactly one week from today, eager shoppers will rise before the sun and head out in droves to the nearest commercial outlet, forming unending store-wrapping lines, or in some instances even camping out, to grab the supposed best deals of the season. Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, is on November 25 this year -- exactly one month before Christmas -- and for most it marks the beginning of the holiday shopping season. (Except for me. I start my shopping on December 22, to maximize my “Christmas cheer.")
