Friends and associates were stunned to learn that Charles D. Snelling, a well-known Republican activist, had killed his wife then himself Thursday at their home.
Friends and associates of Republican political activist and entrepreneur Charles D. Snelling were shocked at Thursday’s news that he had killed his wife, Adrienne, and then himself to end their struggle with Alzheimer’s disease, with which Adrienne had suffered for six years. Here is what they said: Dean Browning, a Lehigh County Republican committeeman and former chairman of the Lehigh County Commissioners, has known Snelling for about 10 years as a friend, mentor and confidant. Rules are good, right? Some people just have more than others.
Growing up with a very Irish mother, superstition was deeply woven into the tapestry of my childhood. Indeed, adhering to the admonitions of, say, five superstitions before breakfast was called Tuesday. It didn't have to be St. Patrick's Day or even Good Friday or All Soul's Day, the most foreboding days of a Catholic year. They're the only days printed in black on the calendar the church gives you. Check it out. But I digress... I'm also well aware, by the way, that superstition is not unique to the Irish, and that the practice enriches many other cultures. Stephen T. Haberle, 49, a police officer with Upper Nazareth Township, passed away this week after a long battle with melanoma.

An Upper Nazareth Township police officer died Sept. 14, according to this Express-Times obituary. Stephen T. Haberle, 49, of Bushkill Township died at his residence after a long and courageous battle with melanoma. According to his obituary, Haberle was a 1980 graduate of Nazareth Area High School and worked as an officer for Upper Nazareth. He also worked part time for departments in Nazareth, Wilson and Bath.
