Miracle Baseball Field Breaks Ground Dec. 12

The Miracle League will build a baseball field at the Chrin Community Center for disabled children and adults.

After more than a year of planning, The Miracle League of Northampton County will break ground at the Dec. 12 to build a baseball field for disabled children and adults.

“It’s a realistic goal now to have kids on the field by the summer of 2012,” said Dan McKinney, director of the Chrin Center and a board member for MLNC.

But the fundraising continues.

Most recently, the donated $15,000 to the effort.

A calling for $750,000 to build and operate the field. McKinney says they are still looking for donations to meet that goal.

The field will be located next to the Chrin Community Center off Green Pond Road. Miracle League fields have rubberized surfaces to help prevent injuries and eliminate any barriers to wheelchair-bound, equipment-assisted or visually impaired players.

According to the Miracle League’s website, there are 240 Miracle League organizations across the country, with others in Puerto Rico, Canada and Australia.

“We hope this field will bring kids and adults from Northampton, Warren and other nearby counties,” McKinney said.

The groundbreaking will start at 10 a.m. at Chrin Community Center.

Anyone wishing to make a donation can contact Dan McKinney at 610-252-2098 or miracleleagueofnc@gmail.com.
