Book Sale Raises $4,100 for Make-A-Wish

More than $20,000 has been locally raised for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Greater Pennsylvania since  graduate  started a summer book sale six years ago.

The local donations just climbed another $4,100, according to Kendall's mother, Monique Ohrwashel, following the latest three-day book sale from June 21 to 23.

In an e-mail to Patch, Monique's excitement was palpable:

"Another successful book sale! Another $4,100 for Make-A-Wish! Another 10,000+ books donated to a local charity after the sale. Most of all, another child gets his wish to go to Disney!"

A slew of volunteers made the sixth book sale, which was held at the Ohrwashel home in , a success.

"As in the past, many other friends and neighbors helped to make this year’s sale such a success," Monique said. "They donated tents, tarps, tables, baked goods, bottled water, muscle, time and support! They all helped make it happen!"

Monique added that her family had the assistance of two "host families" this year, including the Trenberth family and the Stofanak family.

Gayle, Jacob and Zachary Trenberth were on call for book deliveries and other odds and ends, while Kim, Mark and Sarah Stofanak housed and organized all of the children’s books at their home, according to Monique.

"All of us were there for the set up, sale days and clean up," Monique noted. "We made a perfect team!"

The leftover books were donated to , a non-profit organization that raises two things: childhood cancer awareness and funds for local children and their families who are facing hardships due to a cancer diagnosis.

Brenton J. Krouse, of Bushkill Township, was just 11 when he succumbed to T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia on June 1, 2009.

In April 2011, Louise and Jerry Krouse founded Brenton’s Hope. They plan to hold their own book sale in the fall.
