Summer's second heat wave arrived Thursday as the official high temperature at Lehigh Valley International Airport hit 90 degrees.

But that's just the beginning.

According to the National Weather Service, which has issued a heat advisory for Lehigh and Northampton counties, temperatures through Monday are going to be heating up, making for a heat wave of at least five days.

A heat wave constitutes temperatures of 90 or above for at least three days.

Today, the high temperature is expected to hit 96; on Saturday, 95; on Sunday, 92, and on Monday, 90.

If you must be out in the heat, here are some tips from the Centers for Disease Control:

  • Limit your outdoor activity to morning and evening hours.
  • Cut down on exercise.
  • Try to rest often in shady areas.
  • Protect yourself from the sun by wearing a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses and by putting on sunscreen of SPF 15 or higher.
