Chill Out, Cool Off from Heat Wave in Nazareth

Temperatures will be in the 90s over the next three days.

Get ready for the first heat wave of the summer.

Temperatures around Nazareth should be around 90 the next three days, so you might be thinking of ways to cool off.

Residents are missing out this summer with the closing of the Nazareth Pool, which was usually the top spot in Nazareth to beat the heat.

But Dutch Springs is offering a cool pool deal for a few more days. Click here for details.

Palmer Township also boasts two pools: The Palmer Township Community Pool and private Stones Crossing Pool Club. Both are open daily, usually up to 7 p.m.

Another great way to chill out is with an icy frozen treat.

Rita's has a location on Fair Lawn Road in Upper Nazareth Township.

Or you can grab some frozen yogurt at So Fun on Route 248 in Lower Nazareth Township.

Residents told the Nazareth Patch Facebook page that the Nazareth library is a good place to cool off. They also recommended Zanette's Nazareth Grill for ice cream.

It's also useful to remember these tips when weather gets excessively hot:

  • Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids and avoid drinks with caffeine or alcohol.
  • Never leave children or pets alone in enclosed vehicles.
  • Eat small meals and eat more often.
  • Avoid extreme temperature changes.
  • Wear loose-fitting, lightweight, light-colored clothing.
  • Slow down, stay indoors and avoid strenuous exercise during the hottest part of the day.
  • Use a buddy system when working in excessive heat.
  • Take frequent breaks if you must work outdoors.
  • Check on family, friends and neighbors who do not have air conditioning, who spend much of their time alone or who are more likely to be affected by the heat.
  • Check on your animals frequently to ensure that they are not suffering from the heat. Ensure your animals have water and a shady place to rest.
  • Have a plan for wherever you spend time – school, home or work – and prepare for the possibility of power outages.
  • Know those in your neighborhood who are elderly, young, sick or overweight. They are more likely to become victims of excessive heat and may need help.
