Andretti Goes for the Pole in Indianapolis

Local racing favorite Marco Andretti is gearing up for the Indianapolis 500.

Marco Andretii, 25, of Bushkill Township, was the only driver to post a lap faster than 227 mph in Indianapolis 500 practice this week, according to an Associated Press report on Lehigh Valley Live.

It's been a rough road recently for Andretti, who:

  • Has not qualified better than 10th in his last three races
  • Has yet to secure a top 10 finish
  • Replaced his most recent radio caller, father and team owner, Michael Andretti, with Kyle Moyer

Winning the pole in the Indy 500 would place Marco among racing's elite, according to the Indianapolis Star. His grandfather, Mario, won the prized pole position three times.
