Upper Nazareth Township Eagle Scout Honored

In Upper Nazareth Township, Saturday, March 19 will be Anthony Popp Day.

Anthony Popp, 16, of Upper Nazareth Township, was honored at tonight’s Board of Supervisors meeting for attaining the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank a Boy Scout can reach. 

Popp is a member of Boy Scout Troup 44 out of Bushkill Township.  For his Eagle Scout project, Popp chose to give back to his troop’s charter organization, the .

Popp, a sophomore at , constructed a garden and a wall around the LED marquee sign at the entrance of the fire company along Bushkill Center Road.

At one time, the sign was surrounded by various shrubs that were not decorative or visually appealing, according to Popp.  The sign is also located in an area prone to flooding, so Popp felt a wall should also be constructed to help stop potential water damage.

In all, Popp spent 32 hours planning his project, 33 hours during the construction phase, and had an additional 158 hours from other individuals who helped him complete the project.  According to William Popp, Anthony’s father, his son needed 223 man-hours to complete his Eagle Scout project.

With an impressive Scouting résumé and 31 merit badges to date, Popp is proud of his work.

“I really wanted to get [the project] done before the end of the 100th year of Scouting,” Popp said, adding that he was the last Scout from the Forks of the Delaware district to obtain the rank of Eagle Scout in 2010.  Popp officially attained his rank on Dec. 21.

According to his father, Popp will receive his Eagle Scout award at the Court of Honor on Sunday, March 27 at .

During the Board of Supervisors meeting, Chairman Mike Rinker announced Saturday, March 19 as Anthony Popp Day.
