Nursery School, Pre-K Now Available at Local YMCA

New to the this year are pre-kindergarten and nursery school, both of which will run from Sept. 12, 2011 to May 2012.

Registration is now open.

All teachers have early childhood or elementary education degrees, and both programs will feature the following activities:

• Circle time
• Story time
• Learning calendars
• Learning about the weather
• Arts-based projects with a new theme each week
• Gym time that will focus on stretching, flexibility, balance while using a parachute, balls, hula hoops, gymnastics and obstacle courses.
• Nutritional snacks

Pre-K at the Y

Pre-K at the Y is open to children who will be 4 by Sept. 1 and will run Monday and Friday from 9am to 11:30am and Wednesday -- "Lunch Bunch" -- from 9am to 1pm.

"Lunch Bunch" will feature an early afternoon dip in the pool, and a packed lunch will be required for the Wednesday programming only.

The curriculum will focus on the alphabet, pattern recognition, as well as writing letters and numbers up to 100. In addition, fine motor skills will be practiced, including zippering, buttoning and tying.

"Bunny ears, bunny ears, playing by a tree. Criss-crossed the tree, trying to catch me. Bunny ears, Bunny ears, jumped into the hole, popped out the other side beautiful and bold."

Gym activities will also get your kids up and moving. Activities include gymnastics, yoga, ZumbAtomic (Zumba for kids) and obstacle courses -- all will be overseen by certified instructors.

The enrollment fee for Pre-K is $121 per month. Participants must be members of the Y.

Nursery School at the Y

Nursery school at the Y is open to children who will be 3 by Sept. 1 and will run every Tuesday and Thursday from 9am to 11:30am.

The curriculum will focus on colors, shapes, numbers and alphabet recognition.

The enrollment fee for nursery school is $67 per month. Participants must be members of the Y.
