Nazareth School Board Accepting Letters of Interest for Open Seat

Board members accepted Dr. John A. Marino's resignation during the May 23 school board meeting.

After the May 17 primary, voters chose incumbent and newcomer as the men who would occupy the two open seats on Nazareth’s school board.

With both the Republican and Democratic nominations under their belts, Butz and Miller are virtually assured a win in the November election.

However, another seat is now up for grabs following the announcement of Dr. John A. Marino's resignation by Superintendent Victor Lesky at Monday night's school board meeting.

Marino moved into a new home, and although the home lies within the district, he no longer resides in “Region 1.”

This means, by law, Marino had to resign from his seat.

After accepting Marino’s resignation, board members have 30 days to find a replacement, which gives them a June 23 deadline.

The person chosen will only serve until the end of the school term, and will not complete the remainder of Marino’s term, which is another two and a half years.

Interested residents must reside within “Region 1,” which includes Bushkill Township, Tatamy and a portion of Palmer Township (upper, west).

Letters of interest will be accepted until Monday, June 13. The appointment will be made at the June 20 school board meeting.

Letters of interest, or any documentation showing your qualifications, should be sent to:

Dr. Victor Lesky
Superintendent of Schools, Nazareth Area School District
1 Education Plaza
Nazareth, PA 18064
