Nazareth Grad to Stand Trial in Penn State Sex Scandal

Former Penn State V.P. Gary Schultz has Nazareth roots

A judge ruled Friday that graduate Gary Schultz will stand trial for allegedly lying to a grand jury about child sex abuse claims against Jerry Sandusky, according to multiple reports.

In grand jury testimony, Schultz, 62, denied that assistant Penn State football coach Mike McQueary told him he saw Sandusky raping a boy in the football locker room showers in 2002. The grand jury went on to charge Sandusky with 50 counts of child sex abuse, according to the Morning Call.

Schultz is former Penn State University vice president for finance and business. He and former athletic director Tim Curley are charged in the scandal that led to the .

Schultz retired after spending about 40 years at the school, according to the Centre Daily Times. The newspaper's coverage of Friday's court proceeding includes a photo of Schultz entering the Dauphin County Courthouse in Harrisburg.

A college football website called SB Nation reports that Schultz, in court testimony, said not all inappropriate conduct is criminal and that McQuery's report on the shower incident was characterized as horsing around.
