Nazareth Area Middle School Teacher Dies

Another tragedy for school district where math teacher Matthew Greene is still missing.

The Nazareth Area School District is now dealing with another tragedy.

Nazareth Area Middle School eighth-grade teacher Helen Spaide, who was on sabbatical leave until November, has died, the Easton Express-Times reports.

Schools Superintendent Dennis Riker confirmed Spaide's death and said grief counselors would be available Monday for students and staff.

The middle school prinicipal sent this letter to parents and guardians:

"I am writing to inform you of some sad news.  One of our staff members, Helen “Ginny” Spaide, who taught 7th Grade Digital Citizenship and 8th Grade Careers, passed away suddenly over the weekend.  Mrs. Spaide taught at the middle school for many years and was a valued member of our staff.  Students were made aware of the situation this morning via our Eagle Vision news show.  We have additional counselors in the building that are available to assist any student or staff who may have difficulty dealing with the situation.   We have many fond memories of Mrs. Spaide, and we ask that you keep her family in your thoughts and prayers."

Thank you, Bob Kern NAMS Principal

The school district has also been dealing with another tragedy among its teachers.

Nazareth Area High school math teacher Matthew Greene has been missing since mid-July.

A tribute was paid to him at the first football game of the season.
