Nazareth Adopts Other School Budgets

Northampton Community College, Colonial Intermediate Unit 20 and athletic fund budgets all signed off on by Nazareth Area School Board Monday night.

In addition to approving the final 2013-2014 budget Monday night, Nazareth Area School Board took other actions on other budgets:

  • The board approved Northampton Community College’s total consolidated operating budget of $70.40 million for 2013-2014. Nazareth’s share of the budget will be about $607,396 – an approximate increase of 1.80 percent, or $10,363.

NCC’s total budget is $1.55 million higher—or 2.27 percent—that this year’s budget. Also, the 2013-2014 total operating budget in the educational and supportive area where school districts participate came in at $54.44 million—a $1.30 million increase, or 2.45 percent.

NCC’s capital budget, meanwhile, proposes spending $13.10 million—a $150,442 increase.

  • The board also approved the $3.01 million general operating budget for Colonial Intermediate Unit 20. Nazareth’s contribution is $33,362.88—an increase of less than 2 percent, according to district business administrator Bernadine Rishcoff.

Superintendent Dennis Riker pointed out that Nazareth’s share does not include the costs of IU-related programs at Nazareth schools.

  • The board also adopted the Nazareth district’s $1.10 million athletic fund budget for the upcoming school year.

That amount represents no change for the third-straight year, Riker said. The board also approved fund transfers throughout the year from the general fund to the athletic fund. That amount is $931,200.
