About a year ago, Anthony began work on his Eagle Scout project -- a stone wall and flower garden around the Bushkill Township Volunteer Fire Company marquee. Anthony received his Eagle Scout award on Dec. 21.

“It was exhausting, but I had a goal and achieved it – thankfully on the 100th year of the Boy Scouts,” Anthony said.

The project required Anthony to sketch out the garden design, acquire the proper permits, and calculate the amount of materials needed for the wall and garden. He also had to get all of the proper municipality signatures, journal the construction and fundraise in order to purchase the materials.

On March 19, Upper Nazareth Township administrators thanked Popp for his hard work and proclaimed March 19, 2011 as Anthony Popp day.

“It was unexpected, but wonderful though," Anthony said.

The Popp household has been busy, according to Sandra Popp, Anthony's mother.

“Whatever responsibility he takes on, he takes it on fully and sees it through completely," she said.

“I prioritize,” Anthony responded.

As an Eagle Scout, Anthony has been selected to participate in the National Youth Leadership Training, which is organized by the Boy Scouts of America, his mother said.

In addition to Anthony’s Boy Scout participation, he studies German and is currently taking math and science honors classes at Nazareth Area High School.

During the summer of 2012, he plans to head to Germany with the school’s German Club.

Anthony is also a member of the high school's Science Olympiad team. This year, his categories include Mission Possible and Helicopters and Experimental Design.

Anthony said his favorite class in school is computer graphics. Because he enjoys art, according to the sophomore, computer graphics enables him to extend that enjoyment into the digital realm. Anthony would like to design video games as a career one day.

“I just love it,” he said.
