Baby Boom in Nazareth Area School District

The school board Monday night hired 10 long-term substitute teachers. Their role? Fill in for teachers out on maternity leave.

There is a baby boom going on among Nazareth Area School District teachers, especially at the Intermediate School.

The school board Monday night hired 10 long-term substitute teachers. Their role? Fill in for teachers out on maternity leave. Eight of 10 are for the Intermediate School.

Superintendent Dennis Riker made note of the long-term subs, at one point calling out for Intermediate School principal Joseph Yanek, who was sitting in the audience.

At the Intermediate School, Riker said, 25 percent of the regular instructional staff is made up of long-term subs.

The following long-term subs will serve at the Intermediate School:

Edward Reid, Amy Phillips, Thomas Flisser, Shana Snyder, Shawn McEntire, Katelyn McCallum, Candy Rosenbauer and Ellen Stocker.

The other long-term subs are Lucas Schoeneberger, the high school, and Justin Howell, a long-term substitute guidance counselor at the high school.

In other personnel action, the board:

--Approved a family and medical leave act leave for Jessica Hanson, teacher, Bushkill Elementary.

--Approved Kate Zansitis, high school English teacher, to do an administrative internship through East Stroudsburg University with high school principal Alan Davis for 2013-2014.

--Hired Kacy Friend as a replacement teacher at the Intermediate School.

--Hired Alyssa Impink, David Lutte and Kaitlyn Doremus as replacement teachers at the Middle School.

--Hired Krista Farace (Eyer) and Alissa Quinn as replacement special ed teachers at the high school.

--Hired Kimberly Snyder as a replacement teacher at the high school.

--Hired Christina Brodt as an associate nurse, with an assignment at a building to be determined.

--Approved the transfer of Cindy Rizzolino from elementary teacher at Bushkill to library media teacher, with an initial assignment at the elementary buildings.

--Accepted the resignations of Gabrielle Caronia, high school teacher, and Lara Moczydlowski, teacher, Lower Nazareth Elementary.
