The Old Gate Waiting for Spring

This photo was taken in mid-March of my favorite old gate waiting for Spring. It shows how I felt all winter long!!

It was a really long winter for our household, starting with Hurricane/Superstorm Sandy on October 29th.  She blew out our two garage doors right up through the garage roof and the entire mess landed in the road and in our neighbor's perfectly manicured lawn.  Somehow our house managed to hold out but I will never forget us all huddling in the living room with blankets listening to the wind howl and the whole house shake!  That was followed by 10 days with no power except a very, very long extension cord from our neighbor's home that we used to alternate the refridgerator, our wood pellet stove and the fish tank around the clock.  God bless having good neighbors.  We finally got our utility pole replaced after 50 or 60 calls to MetEd and calling Rep. Marcia Hahn's office who directed me to lodge a complaint with the Public Utility Commission.  Amazingly, about an hour and a half after talking to the PUC, a pole truck from Michigan was hard at work installing the most beautiful utility pole I had ever seen!!  = )

Even the holidays were rather blah.....  We had to deal with the endless phone calls and insurance adjusters and getting contractor estimates.  The very worst part was trying to make a contents list for the insurance company.  Hurricane Sandy did mostly wind damage to our property but it was followed by numerous other storms leaving ice and snow and causing more damage to the interior of the garage making it hazardous to photograph and try to save a lot of the garage items.

Needless to say, I didn't take many photos over the winter months other than stuff for the insurance company.  Our garage is now mostly rebuilt and finally under roof and we are almost done dealing with our insurance company.  Soon we will be able to refurnish our garage and game room and move on with other home projects.
