Township Manager: PennDOT Won't Change Confusing Intersection

Dual left-turn lanes do not exist when leaving ProLogis Parkway at Route 248 in Lower Nazareth Township, but that doesn't stop motorists from making their own.

's manager told supervisors Wednesday night that the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has no plans to fix a confusing intersection in the township.

“I talked to PennDOT about it, but they said they're not changing it,” Timm Tenges said, referring to the ProLogis Parkway and Route 248 intersection.

According to Tenges, the issue has been raised publicly about the lanes exiting ProLogis onto Route 248 -- if you're heading toward the Northampton Crossings shopping center.

“People make it a dual left turn when it isn’t,” Tenges said.

Tenges explained that there is one lane designated for turning left onto Route 248. The other lane is designated to go straight through the intersection, but there is no development on the other side of the road -- yet. The infrastructure dead-ends to a field, so motorists are using the straight lane as a left-turning lane, he said.

Tenges said PennDOT designed the intersection, so only PennDOT can make changes.

The problem may fix itself, however, if a plan is approved to build two warehouses on the 58-acres where the dead end stops.

In September, for the warehouses, which will have a combined square footage of 584,000.

The two buildings will face each other with loading docks running the length of the warehouses, which do not have tenants yet.
