Tatamy Bridge Closed

Bridge closed until further notice due to deck damage.

UPDATE: Drivers who use Tatamy Bridge are being detoured to 8th Street to Tatamy Road then Northwood Avenue and Bushkill Drive after PennDOT announced the bridge closed.

Earlier today, PennDOT reported the bridge closed due to deck damage. The bridge was already slated for replacement and was scheduled to be closed later this summer for repairs.

The bridge is expected to be closed until November 2012 for repairs.

Only 18 months and $2.7 million to replace? Awesome, I wish I could be complete rip-off artists like PennDOT and Tatamy. My commute to and from work just got that much more ridiculous for the foreseeable future, all thanks to a lack of foresight and proper road maintenance. Yay for America's crumbling infrastructure!

TB - on behalf of Tatamy Borough, I'd like to let you know that we've been pushing to have this bridge replaced for at least 10 years - perhaps even longer. Unfortunately, we're at the mercy of PennDOT. Tatamy Borough has absolutely nothing to do with this bridge, or the scheduling of the maintenance and/or, in this case, replacement. Questions welcome - cmoren@tatamypa.org. Thanks for writing! Chris Moren President, Tatamy Borough Council
