'Step Up and Be Counted,' Nazareth Councilman Says

Nazareth Councilman Carl Fischl says residents should get involved in Nazareth.

"Who wants to step up?" "Who wants to step up and be counted?

At the June Nazareth Borough Council meeting, Councilman Carl Fischl posed questions to residents about how they should get involved and help make changes to better their community.

He specifically mentioned that residents should write their legislators to get the law changed of needing a Civil Service Committee to approve police force hirings.

"A lot of people don't know the laws," Fischl said. "Write your congressman and tell about this antiquated law that governs boroughs. That's the only way things are going to change."

Meanwhile, at recent meetings, Council President Dan Chiavaroli and Councilman Jack Herbst informed residents about numerous openings on various municipal committees.

While a slot of the Nazareth Ambulance Board has now been filled, the borough has openings on its recreation board, a position and an alternate slot on its emergency management committee, an opening for borough auditor, a spot on the planning commission and one on the Civil Service Committee.

Herbst mentioned at the June police committee meeting that a candidate has emerged for the three-person Civil Service Committee.
