Snyder’s of Hanover, headquartered in Hanover, Pa., built its facility in 1993, Paul Szewczak, a principal at Liberty Engineering in Allentown, explained to the township's in December.

When the company built the distribution center, it also went ahead and planned for a future 7,500-square-foot expansion, he said. The company didn’t need the extra warehouse space until it acquired the Charlotte, N.C.-based Lance Snack Foods in 2010.

At Wednesday night's supervisors meeting, Albert Kortze, the township engineer, reviewed the history of the plans.

“There are really just a few housekeeping issues,” Kortze said, such as two landscaping trees that will need to be planted.

Szewczak attended the meeting on behalf of Snyder’s-Lance, but didn’t make any comment. Supervisors didn’t have any questions for him.

Back in December, Mike Anderson, an attorney for Snyder’s-Lance, sought a variance on the minimal front-yard setback. The company technically has two front yards -- Selvaggio Drive and Daniels Road, which runs behind the building.

Szewczak told the Zoning Hearing Board that the original plan allowed for a 50-foot setback, but the ordinance changed over the years to a 75-foot setback.

“It was all compliant in 1993,” Szewczak said.

The board approved the preliminary and final land development plans at the December meeting, and the township's Planning Commission accepted the plans in January.

Linda Crook, the chairperson of the Planning Commission, said the commission did suggest that Snyder’s-Lance makes sure there is enough paved area around the building so that a fire truck can make it around the building.

Snyder’s-Lance doesn't plan to add any additional trucks or employees, Crook said.
