School Board Approves Drainage Project at District Track
Project will cost more than $90,000 near site of sinkhole that opened last winter.
The Nazareth Area School Board at Monday night's meeting approved spending more than $90,000 on a project to repair drainage issues at the track near . A sinkhole opened near the track earlier this year.
The board awarded a $41,380 contract to Dirt Work Solutions of Slatington to perform a storm pipe improvement project at the track. That money will come from the capital projects portion of the district budget.
The board also authorized the district administration to submit an application to the state Department of Education for permits for the project, at an estimated cost of $50,000.

Both items were part of a resolution approving facilities and operations matters. The resolution also included a change order for the HVAC project at . The change order will lower the contract price by $2,848.85.

The district spent about $50,000 to twice fill in the sinkhole that opened near the track, according to published reports.
In other business, district Superintendent Victor Lesky invited board members to attend an assembly at 8am Thursday, the first day back at work for Nazareth Area teachers.
At that time, district officials plan to praise teachers for their hard work that helped every school in the district meet its Adequate Yearly Progress goals for the 2010-11 school year, based on the federal No Child Left Behind Act, Lesky said.
