Route 33 Interchange Groundbreaking Scheduled for Jan. 31

Palmer Township and state officials will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the Route 33 interchange on Jan. 31.

Plans for the Route 33 interchange are heading in the right direction.

Palmer Township officials said Wednesday that a groundbreaking ceremony on the long-awaited, much-anticipated Route 33 interchange project will take place Jan. 31.

"It's exciting. It's coming to fruition," Supervisors Chairman Dave Colver said. "It's a big deal."

Colver said that the ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. at Porsche Logistics in the Palmer Township Industrial Park.

"It will be a presentation and then a groundbreaking ceremony with shovels and all that," Colver said.

Colver said he expected construction to begin sometime in April or May with completion 16 to 18 months later around Thanksgiving or Christmas 2014.

"This has been on the radar, before my time, over 20 years," Colver added. "I've been an advocate of it for years."

Palmer officials believe the interchange could help create  with a "whole new outlet for non-residential development like retail, industrial and commercial," Colver said.

"This opens all kinds of doors for everyone, including Forks and Tatamy," he said.
