Resolution for 'No Parking' Signs Unanimously Approved

Nazareth will have 90 days to draw up an ordinance that includes the approved changes.

unanimously passed a resolution at Tuesday night’s meeting that would allow the posting of “No Parking” signs near two intersections.

The first sign will be placed at the southeast corner of South and S. Broad streets, according to Councilman Larry Stoudt.

The new no-parking area would run 20 feet east on South Street by St. John’s Cemetery.

“One or two vehicles -- mostly vans or trucks -- park too close to the corner and you cannot get a good sight distance,” Stoudt explained to a resident who questioned the reasoning behind the signs. “We’ve had a pretty good amount of accidents there.”

Stoudt added that the 20 feet is equivalent to about two parking spaces.

“It’s not going to cause too much of a problem, I don’t think,” he said.

The second sign will be placed at the southwest corner of Mauch Chunk and S. Church streets, and the no-parking area would run 20 feet west -- on the south side -- of Mauch Chunk.

Vehicles would not be allowed to “park here to corner,” Stoudt said at last week’s workshop.

Stoudt explained that it should be easier for cars to maneuver around the turn with the no-parking area.

The borough will have 90 days to draw up an ordinance with the approved changes, according to Stoudt.
