Recycling Cans Added to Upper Nazareth Parks

The Upper Nazareth Township Board of Supervisors approves a motion for the purchase of lids for recycling cans to be placed in township parks.

All they needed were the lids.

And that's what Public Works Director Shawn Shupe asked for of the Upper Township Board of Supervisors at its mid-May meeting.

Shupe requested the purchase of lids for recycling cans to be placed at all township parks.

"They're cost effective. I made a good choice and have a good price," Shupe said. "We have cans. We just need lids."

With that, Shupe stated he wanted 20 lids at about $25 each with shipping costs of $150 for a total purchase price of around $650.

"Every park would have recycling cans," Shupe said. "And we'd have one recycling dumpster."

Supervisor Scott Sylvainus agreed.

"We were required to have it last year," he stated. "We need to do it."

At the supervisors earlier May meeting, a motion was approved to get paperwork progressing for Upper Nazareth to receive a $237,000 recycling grant.

The grant agreement gets the process rolling for the township to obtain equipment and create educational materials for residents.

The township would be reimbursed for those costs. Township officials would also have to spend between $3,000-$4,000 from the general fund for the implementation of the grant program.
