Portion of Hanoverville Road in Lower Nazareth to Close Aug. 8

The construction project to replace four drainage pipes could take up to 10 days.

Hanoverville Road in Lower Nazareth Township will be closed beginning Aug. 8, according to township manager Timm Tenges.

The township plans to replace a culvert near Hahn Meadow Park, Tenges told supervisors during a meeting Wednesday night, adding that he expects the road to be closed for 10 days -- less if at all possible.

Tenges explained that four large pipes, which were laid in the ground sometime in the 1950s or 1960s, have worn out and need to be replaced. The new pipes will be made out of reinforced concrete and will be used for drainage.

“We want to get [the project] done before school starts,” Tenges added.

Vehicles traveling on Route 191 will be detoured onto Steuben Road, which connects with Georgetown Road. Georgetown intersects back to Hanoverville Road, just past the construction.

The detour will affect traffic in both directions, according to Tenges, and a weight limit will be put in place for commercial trucks.

The project will not be put out for bid. Instead, it will completed by township employees, Tenges said.

As the project begins and progresses, information regarding the closure will be posted on Lower Nazareth's website -- www.lowernazareth.com.
