Pool Committee: Preserving Integrity Important

Shell of existing bathhouse will be used in new pool complex design.

The Nazareth Pool Committee had several important goals.

Besides finding a great pool for the public, pool committee members also wanted to preserve the integrity of the pool as a key piece to the atmosphere at Boro-Park.

Committee members believe they've done just that.

"We are building a pool that meets your needs, the community's needs," Pool Committee Chairman Chris Audenried said at a recent meeting.

"We did our due diligence," he said.

Audenried said the new pool will be located within the structure of the old pool to continue community continuity.

A Bethlehem Township architect will design the new pool, which pool program director Jeanette Hartzell said would have 50-meter lanes and two 25-meter lanes, would be 12-feet deep around a diving board, would have at least one and maybe a second baby pool and also maybe feature bubblers or sprinklers for children.

Audenried also stated that with the new pool design, the shell of the existing bathhouse will be kept. "We want to keep as much existing structure as possible."

The pool committee began meeting in mid-June to come up with a pool plan.
