Pool Committee Praised for Effort

The pool committee was created on June 3 and met for 10-11 weeks.

The Nazareth Pool Committee has done its job.

And, at Thursday night's Borough Council work session, committee members received an ovation for their hard work and effort coming up with a game plan for a new pool to replace the 74-year-old shuttered one.

The pool committee met for 10-11 weeks after it was created on June 3, member Jeanette Hartzell told the audience. The committee presented its plans for a new pool Thursday and recommended the hiring of an architect.

She said the committee toured area pools, poured through survey results, picked through nine consultants and held numerous public meetings.

"It was a privilege to serve on this committee," member Harry Adams said. "Our decision was unanimous. I'm pleased there are no bells and whistles. They don't increase attendance or revenue. The pool director [Hartzell] needs help and our guidance and support."

Adams also offered kudos to former borough engineer Don Keller, whose insight and experience provided plenty of expertise and guidance.

"We would never be at this point without him," Adams said.
