PHOTO: Nazareth Council Honors Blue Eagle Football Team

Despite the cramped quarters, every member of the 2011 Blue Eagle football team managed to shake the hands of Nazareth Borough Council members.

On Nov. 26, 2011, stellar football by defeating Easton's Red Rovers 28-21.

During the state quarterfinal match-up, however, for the Blue Eagles when the team fell to La Salle College High School 41-33 -- a mere touchdown and two-point conversion behind.

The team still can be forever proud that it broke a two-decade streak -- this is the first time since the late 1980s that Nazareth Area High School won the Lehigh Valley Conference championship and the District XI Class AAAA championship.

took notice of the team’s hard work and dedication to not only sports, but also to education, and honored the team during its meeting Monday night. The entire team, along with parents, grandparents and siblings, packed into council chambers to hear Resolution No. 2-12 read aloud and then approved.

Coach Rob Melosky said the team plans “on making this an annual thing.”

“I hope that not one person in this room is satisfied with a one-time thing,” Melosky said, adding that he and the team were honored by the recognition.
