PennDOT Announces Detour Plan After Closure of Tatamy Bridge

The detour will take traffic south on Tatamy Road.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has released its detour plans around the .

According to Sean Brown, a press officer for PennDOT district 5-0, traffic coming into Tatamy from the Nazareth area should turn right onto 8th Street/Tatamy Road. Drivers will then continue to Northwood Avenue and turn left. Northwood Avenue ends at Bushkill Drive. A left-hand turn onto Bushkill Drive will lead back to Uhler Road in Forks Township. A right-hand turn brings drivers into Easton.

For traffic coming from Forks, the reverse is in effect: Bushkill Drive to Northwood Avenue to 8th Street/Tatamy Road to the blinking light in Tatamy.

The bridge was closed Monday after PennDOT crews found a punch-through on the bridge's deck work. A punch-through, explained Brown, is like a large pothole that goes through the deck of a bridge, exposing the water below.

The bridge will remain closed until construction on a new replacement bridge begins late summer or early fall.
