'No Parking' Signs to Go Up in Nazareth

A resolution is expected to be passed at Tuesday's meeting that would allow the posting of 'No Parking' signs at two intersections.

At the request of Councilman Thomas Heckman, Nazareth Borough Council is expected to pass a resolution at Tuesday’s meeting that would allow the posting of “No Parking” signs near two intersections.

The first sign would be placed at the southeast corner of South and S. Broad streets, according to Councilman Larry Stoudt.

The new no-parking area would run 20 feet east on South Street by St. John’s Cemetery.

Stoudt explained that it would be easier for cars to maneuver around the turn with the no-parking area.

The second sign would be placed at the southwest corner of Mauch Chunk and S. Church streets, and the no-parking area would run 20 feet west on Mauch Chunk. Vehicles would not be allowed to “park here to corner,” Stoudt explained.

Stoudt also asked council members if the borough could request a new “Route 191” sign with an arrow for the intersection of S. New and South streets from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

“People aren’t supposed to go down there, but strangers and truckers get lost,” Stoudt said. “Maybe we can contact PennDOT and see if we can get a sign. They may not [give us a sign], but we can ask."

Council members agreed.

The next Nazareth Borough Council meeting is scheduled for 7pm on Sept. 6. The meeting has been pushed back one day because of Labor Day.
