Nazareth's Superintendent of Highways Steps Down, Applications Being Accepted

Keith Knecht has decided to move on after six years of service.

During a special meeting last night in Nazareth Borough Council Chambers, the superintendent of highways submitted his written resignation.

Keith Knecht, who held the position for six years, declined to give a specific reason for resigning, except to say the decision was for personal reasons.

Council members accepted the resignation and went into a closed session. After returning, the terms for finding a replacement were announced.

Applications for a new superintendent of highways will be accepted through March 18 and should be submitted to Nazareth Borough Hall, 134 S. Main St., Nazareth, Pa., 18064.

Council President Dan Chiavaroli said the position includes overseeing maintenance on public roads, parks and grounds, as well as managing a staff of seven employees and three seasonal employees.

According to Chiavaroli, in addition to accepting applications, the borough will consider current employees who may apply for the position. A committee of four people will review the applications as is required in the borough's charter.
