Nazareth Pool Director Retained

Despite the summer closure of Nazareth Boro-Park Pool, pool director Jeanette Hartzell is being retained.

The Borough Council approved a motion at its June monthly meeting to retain Hartzell as pool/park/summer recreation program director.

Hartzell is receiving a salary of $833 per month for June, July and August for a total 2013 salary of $10,000 for the park and recreation services she will provide, officials said.

The salary adjustment takes into account the pool closing for the season.

Some council members questioned why Hartzell needed to be retained since the pool was no more.

"When you have someone who does the job well, you want to keep them," Councilwoman Cynthia Werner said.

"She's a victim of circumstance," Secretary Paul Kokolus said. "We had no idea the pool wouldn't open.

The committee working on putting together a proposal for a new pool met for the first time last week.
