Nazareth New Pool Plans Revealed

Nazareth Pool Committee presents findings and suggests architect to come on board to oversee plans for new Boro-Park Pool.

The new Nazareth Boro-Park Pool now has an artist's rendering.

During Thursday night's Borough Council work session, the Pool Committee in charge of coming up with recommendations to replace the shuttered Boro-Park Pool announced that it has chosen an architect.

A motion was made for the Borough Council to accept the recommendation at Tuesday night's (Sept. 3) Borough Council meeting.

The Pool Committee narrowed down a list of nine consultants to two: MKSD of Allentown and Spillman Farmer Architects of Bethlehem Township.

Spillman was chosen due to its 85 years of experience of overseeing pool projects, including ones at Cedar Crest College, additions to the Easton/Phillipsburg YMCA and upgrading the Heil Pool in Easton.

Recreation Director Jeanette Hartzell, in giving the presentation, also stated that a company official is Daniel Harrington, a Bronze Medal winner for the backstroke in the 1976 Summer Olympics.

The firm will design the new pool, which Hartzell said would have 50-meter lanes and two 25-meter lanes, would be 12-feet deep around a diving board, would have at least one and maybe a second baby pool and also maybe feature bubblers or sprinklers for children.

The pool committee also would like to have Wade Associates construct the pool, but Pool Committee leader, Councilman Chris Audenried, stated that the pool builder must go out to bid first.

"These are initial plans," Council President Dan Chiavaroli said. "They are not set in stone."

The pool committee began meeting in mid-June to come up with a pool plan.
