Nazareth Builds a 'Better Mouse Trap'

Nazareth has won third place in a national "Better Mouse Trap" competition for its innovations in reducing borough costs.

The borough won for its in-house manufactured road salt brine system, borough council president Daniel R. Chiavaroli said. The system, developed by Nazareth Public Works Superintendent Robert Reimer, saved the borough $20,000, according to lehighvalleylive.com.

Earlier this year, Nazareth took first place in the Pennsylvania "Better Mouse Trap" competition with the innovation. The national competition had 58 entrants.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and the Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs will present the national award to Nazareth borough at its Nov. 4 meeting.

The system that won the award allows the borough to spread a salt-and-water solution on roads to prevent icing, using totes made by employees, according to the lehighvalleylive.com report.
