Have Faith in Police Process, Councilman Says

Nazareth Councilman Carl Fischl tells residents that police process will be a positive one.

Nazareth Councilman Carl Fischl has a message for borough residents: Believe.

One week after it was announced that the Colonial Regional Police would not be handling police coverage in Nazareth, the Police Committee met Monday night to address the future of its own police department.

And Fischl echoed Mayor Carl Strye Jr.'s earlier statements that the process, while possibly lengthy, will be a positive one.

"We bottomed out," Fischl said. "Now we gotta build and learn from out past."

The Police Committee includes Fischl, Chairman, Councilman Jack Herbst and Councilman Charles Donello. Strye also attends the meetings along with Police Chief Thomas Trachta.

"This going to be a slow, tedious process," he told a handful of residents at the meeting. "But I think you'll see the ball moving down the field. I think we have everything to gain. You're going to see Nazareth take off."

Fischl talked about the borough facing numerous issues: building a new pool, rebuilding the police department and possibly raising taxes.

"This council took a lot of punches," Strye said. "They were stuck between a rock and a hard place."

"We brought in a new head coach," Fischl said regarding Strye, who oversees the police department in his role as mayor. "You've got to trust us, the mayor, the council, the police, to work this out. Everybody wants to solve this from the top down to the bottom up. You've got to have faith in the process."
