Public Can Address Authorities at Tuesday Town Meeting

Special Nazareth town meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. Sept. 10.

Nazareth Mayor Carl Strye Jr. is trying to reason with hurricane season.

As hurricane season gets ready, Strye has called for all borough emergency personnel to gather for a special town meeting to discuss how suited Nazareth is to handle another storm like Hurricane Sandy.

The meeting will also allow the public to ask questions of Nazareth's authorities, including the police and fire chiefs and emergency personnel.

He announced at a recent police committee meeting that a special town meeting will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 10) at council chambers, Strye said in an email to Nazareth Patch.

The meeting, which is open to the public, will include all department heads of police, fire, ambulance, public works and emergency medical services. The meeting will be preceded at 6:15 p.m. by a closed meeting of department heads.

Strye said the meeting will also focus on emergency preparedness.

He believes the issue is an important one to address. Strye said he discussed it with former Mayor Fred Daugherty Jr. while serving as president of the Vigilance Hose Fire Company after Hurricane Sandy ripped through the Lehigh Valley and East Coast.
